Guthrie Marks National Trauma Survivors Day

In observance of National Trauma Survivors Day, Guthrie celebrated the strength and resiliency of trauma survivors, their family and friends, and the trauma professionals who go above and beyond every day to help patients in their recovery. Today, we came together to honor them and the strength it takes to heal and to share stories of triumph over adversity. 

Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital (RPH) became an accredited Level 1 Trauma Center in 2023, and annually sees between 1,500 and 1,800 trauma cases. The severity of those cases increased since achieving Level 1 status last year.

National Trauma Survivors Day is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the remarkable journeys of recovery undertaken by trauma survivors. Three survivors of traumatic injuries shared their stories today. They were joined by family members and members of the Guthrie Trauma Team. 

“As a trauma surgeon, I have the privilege of caring for trauma patients,” said Dr. Steven Casos, Trauma Medical Director, Robert Packer Hospital. “Working together, our trauma team has the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people's lives, often at their most vulnerable moments. We’re present at critical moments that can offer someone a second chance at life.” 

Along with Robert Packer Hospital’s Level 1 Trauma Center status, Guthrie Corning Hospital is a Provisional Level III Adult Trauma Center and Guthrie Troy Community Hospital is an accredited Level IV Trauma Center.
